On December 14th—today if you’re reading this in the United States—Roald Amundsen and four of his men reached the South Pole, the first humans to ever set foot on this several miles thick stack of ice.
Coincidently I just yesterday re-read C-G's description of "Birdie" and Wilson, who remind me in many ways of two of my closest friends I have the good fortune of knowing. "Journey" is a good book.
In the 4th grade (almost 60 years ago) we were assigned to write about someone we regarded as a hero. Based on what I'd read in the Brittanica, I wrote about Scott.
